4 Reasons a Rhinoplasty May Be Right for You

by | Sep 6, 2017 | Rhinoplasty | 0 comments

The nose is one of the most noticeable features on the face, and helps bring balance to the facial profile. A rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that fixes the shape or appearance of the nose for aesthetic or functional reasons. If you have ever thought about nose surgery, here are four reasons why this procedure may be right for you:

  1. Refined Appearance: For many men and women, the main motivation behind a rhinoplasty is to make their nose more aesthetically pleasing. For females, the idea of a smaller and more feminine-looking nose is the top reason for rhinoplasty surgery. Males may be bothered by a prominent or misshapen nose as well and may seek the help of a surgeon to correct this. These types of nose jobs can often be done subtly, altering the shape and restoring symmetry, while maintaining a natural appearance.
  2. Accident or Injury: Sports injuries, work accidents and motor vehicle injuries can all cause imperfections, or cause the nose to become unbalanced from the rest of the face. A rhinoplasty can help correct these injuries to restore the nose to its original appearance.

3. Ethnicity: An ethnic rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure which changes the structure and shape of the nose while preserving the patient’s unique ethnic characteristics. Whether you are of Asian, African American, Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent, there are specific treatments that can be done to fix both the functionality or cosmetic appearance of your nose, while still maintaining the features that you value and define your heritage.

4. Functionality: A more common reason for a rhinoplasty is to correct functional issues of the nose, as opposed to the cosmetic aspect which strives to target balance and appearance. A functional rhinoplasty can help with issues like a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, and internal or external valve collapse. If you feel your breathing may be inhibited from any of the above conditions, consult a physician to see if a functional rhinoplasty can help.
