What Types of Rhinoplasty Exist?

Feb 14, 2020 | Ethnic Rhinoplasty, Functional Rhinoplasty, Rhinoplasty | 0 comments

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that reshapes bones, cartilage, and tissues in your nose. Well-known for its ability to improve your aesthetic appeal, rhinoplasty can also improve sinus function. The Woodlands Plastic Surgery specializes in all types of rhinoplasties. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Correa has the skill and technique necessary to achieve superior results for just about any rhinoplasty patient. Let’s take a look.

*Individual results may vary

Female Rhinoplasty

Many women seek Dr. Correa’s help to enhance their feminine appearance by reshaping or resizing their noses. Women whose noses are overly angular or have broader tips tend to appear more masculine. Dr. Correa understands the importance of making small changes during the procedure that ensure your natural beauty is enhanced.

Male Rhinoplasty

The most common reason men get rhinoplasty is to repair an injury or accident which has caused the nose to be unbalanced or misshapen. In some cases, noses that are malformed from a birth defect can create problems with breathing, causing a patient to breathe through the mouth or snore. Dr. Correa works to keep a balance when correcting the injured nose to maintain function while ensuring its appearance of masculinity.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

An aesthetic rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as cosmetic, focuses on addressing problem bumps on the bridge, reducing the appearance of wide nostrils, and/or reshaping the structure of the nose. Cosmetic procedures can also correct a crooked or off-centered nose. They are typically only needed once in a lifetime.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Functional or medical rhinoplasty is typically performed to correct breathing problems or nasal obstructions. Nasal obstructions can be repaired by septoplasty, turbinoplasty, or nasal valve correction, which allows patients to breathe easier and sleep better without interruption. Using methods of corrective nose surgery, functional rhinoplasty can address problems caused by trauma, genetics, or previous unsuccessful surgery.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

The nose can be a crucial part of a patient’s ethnic identity. Ethnic rhinoplasty is a variation of a traditional rhinoplasty that uses specialized techniques to maintain the unique ethnic characteristics of the nose. Patients of Asian, African, and Middle Eastern descent tend to have nasal structures that differ from Caucasians. Dr. Correa has extensive experience performing this specialized procedure and understands the importance of preserving the ethnic features that his patient’s value.

Traditional Rhinoplasty

Traditional rhinoplasty can be functional or aesthetic and can address different concerns or be combined to improve the overall structure of the nose. Most patients seek improved appearance, balance, or breathing when choosing a traditional rhinoplasty. The primary difference between traditional and ethnic rhinoplasty is the structural variation between Caucasian and non-Caucasian noses.

What’s Right for Me?

There are many reasons men and women are interested in this procedure. Some patients want a surgeon who can maintain their masculine or feminine features. Other patients want a surgeon who is well-versed in the nasal structures and aesthetics of different ethnicities. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Bryan Correa has helped hundreds of patients each year achieve natural-looking results through rhinoplasty procedures and will determine the procedure that’s just right for you.

Dr Correa and staff did an excellent job taking care of me from start to finish. They were very realistic about the results i could expect and did a great job helping me achieve them. This was my first surgery and it was needed primarily to help with a nose breathing problem but I did have the bump on my nose fixed for looks. Finding the right doctor can be difficult as your nose can really define how you look. Well I can honestly say im glad I chose Dr Correa because I can actually breath through my nose properly for the first time and i love my new look.
