What Procedures Make Up a Mommy Makeover?

Dec 12, 2019 | Mommy Makeover | 0 comments

A Mommy Makeover is a loose term for a combination of procedures aimed at restoring a pre-pregnancy figure. Pregnancy, childbearing, and nursing have a big impact on a woman’s body and its appearance. A Mommy Makeover can reverse these effects and give women their figure and confidence back.

Any procedure involved in a Mommy Makeover is highly custom and depends on what part of the body a woman is most concerned with. At Correa Plastic Surgery, Moms are a priority and every year hundreds of Moms turn to Dr. Correa to get their pre-pregnancy body back.

Mommy Makeover: What’s Included?

A Mommy Makeover can address almost any concerns that women have post-birth. Lost facial volume can be addressed with fillers, vaginal laxity can be improved with vaginal rejuvenation, arm lift procedures can get rid of loose, sagging skin, and these are only some examples.

Although there are many procedures available, there are some which are the most popular amongst Moms. These are tummy tucks, breast enhancements, and liposuction. Let’s take a closer look at these popular options.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Unsurprisingly, for post-baby women, a tummy tuck is one of the most common procedures. This procedure addresses unwanted fat, belly bulges, sagging skin, and tightens underlying muscles. It also helps restore optimal contours. This procedure takes about 2 hours. You can expect some swelling and bruising, which will start to improve after 2 weeks with a full recovery 3 months after the procedure.

Breast Enhancement

Procedures which focus on breasts are also common after childbirth. No matter the goal you have for your breasts, there is an option for you. These options are breast lifts, breast augmentation, and breast reduction. After nursing, it is recommended to wait 6 months before undergoing any breast procedures.

Liposuction

Liposuction is all about removing unwanted pockets of isolated fat at various sites of the body. This is a popular option for removing fat that hasn’t responded to diet or exercise. Target areas for liposuction include thighs, back, buttocks, hips, and arms. There are three main types of liposuction. To decide on the best option for you, book a private consultation to speak to Dr. Correa. Note that liposuction is commonly paired with a tummy tuck for enhanced results.

Why Combine Procedures?

When undergoing a Mommy Makeover, most women opt for multiple procedures at the same time. Going through multiple procedures and targeting various trouble areas at the same time produces more dramatic results. It also results in less downtime in the long run, as you won’t need to recover from every procedure separately. Finally, this can also be a cost-effective solution to getting the results you want as bundling procedures allow you to save on facility fees and anesthesia-related costs.

What’s Right for Me?

As every woman and every Mom is unique, there is no cookie-cutter option for a Mommy Makeover. Each Mom should have a private consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in Mommy Makeovers.

My motivation was to get back to somewhat my pre-baby body. After breast-feeding 2 kids, my body wasn’t what it used to be. Also, I always had always been self-conscious when it came to my profile and nose. I always said, from the time I was a pre-teen, I was going to fix that some day.

Recovery: The breast augmentation honestly was not a huge deal to recover from. It really wasn’t that painful. The worst part was not being able to exercise! 🙂

The Rhinoplasty for me was a big recovery period and not one I think I was fully prepared for. I bruised and swelled a lot! Luckily withing a few weeks, with the help of some make-up, was able to enter the world again. The other big obstacle was sunglasses. I had to use medical tape to tape the glasses above the bridge of my nose for nearly 3 or 4 months. I didn’t realize it would be that long. Lastly, my nose was extremely sensitive for nearly 6 months or so after the surgery. The nose didn’t hurt but if my kids bumped it, it felt like I was punched. These were the things I don’t think I fully prepared myself for. However, I think my profile looks great and am happy that I did the surgery. I am not self-conscious yet I still look like myself.
