How Long Do I Wait To Exercise After a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a series of several procedures that can help mothers get their bodies back after pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. It can include a tummy tuck, breast augmentation/lift/reduction, liposuction, or any other procedures that you feel would help you look and feel like your best self. However, since these procedures are typically done at the same time, the recovery time is longer than if you just had one procedure.

For the first several weeks…

Following surgery, you will tire more easily and will need to be able to rest. This may include asking a friend or family member to help you if you have young children. Recovery time is completely dependent on the procedures you will have. For example, the recovery time is greater for a tummy tuck than a mini tummy tuck.

Exercise after a Mommy Makeover will be important to maintain your results. For best results, you should start gradually as you feel your energy start to come back, which may take several weeks. You should begin with light cardio activities like walking the neighborhood, walking on a very slow setting on a treadmill, or cycling slowly on a stationary bike.

You will also need to consider…

the procedures you went under. For exercise after a breast augmentation, you may need to wear a special sports bra and avoid overusing your pectoral muscles until the area heals completely. This means no heavy lifting. After a tummy tuck, you should avoid core muscles.

Most importantly…

you will need to consider both your doctor’s recommendations and how you feel. If you rush back into exercise, you may jeopardize your results – but it’s not great to sit on the couch all day either. Gradually working up to your preferred exercise is a great way to get back into it.
