How Can I Remove Excess Skin Around My Thighs?

Jul 17, 2019 | Body, Thigh lift | 0 comments

Excess skin and fat around the thighs can be bothersome for many people. Luckily there are ways to fix this so you can feel better about your body. A thighplasty, or a thigh lift, is a surgical procedure that is used to improve the appearance of your thighs by tightening flabby, saggy, or dimpled skin. Though this isn’t a way to losing large amounts of excess fat in the thighs, it can be combined with light liposuction to help lift and contour the upper legs.

How Does It Work?

A thighplasty is performed under general anesthesia and takes two to three hours. Different types of thigh lifts will require a different incision pattern. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Correa is careful to place incisions in locations that can be easily covered by most clothes and swimsuits. The most common location for incision is near the groin area.

Once the incision is made, excess skin and fat are removed and the underlying tissue is tightened and reshaped. After lifting and smoothing the remaining skin, it is sutured into place.

There are three types of thigh lifts:

  • Lower Thigh Lift – Which focuses on the lower part of the inner thigh.
  • Medial Thigh Lift – Which concentrates on the upper part of the inner thigh.
  • Combined Thigh Lift – Which addresses the front and outside of the thigh. This is the most intensive of the three procedures.

Inner and medial lifts can be done on an outpatient basis. The combined thighplasty may require you to stay overnight in the hospital.

Recovery & Results

The results of a thighplasty will be noticeable immediately. However, the full effect won’t visible until the bruising and swelling of the thighs is reduced. To minimize swelling you will need to wear compression garments and it’s possible Dr. Correa may place drains to collect excess fluids to prevent infection. Sutures can be removed within two weeks and you can typically return to work after seven to ten days. Physical activity may be resumed after about four to six weeks.

Is a Thigh Lift Right for Me?

A thighplasty is ideal for those who have reached their weight loss goal but are unhappy with the appearance of their thighs. If you are on a weight loss journey, it is recommended to refrain from getting a thigh lift until you are close to your ideal weight. Liposuction can be combined with a thighplasty to achieve more dynamic results.

Dr. Correa will speak with you about all of your contouring options in-depth at the time of your initial consultation. Together you can customize a treatment plan that will help you achieve the results you want with the least amount of scarring or downtime.
