Female Rhinoplasty

Serving The Woodlands, Kingwood, and Conroe, Texas

The nose is the most prominent feature on the face and if it isn’t quite right, no amount of makeup will make a difference. The nose plays prominently in a patient’s overall facial balance and rhinoplasty represents an elegant way to restore or enhance this balance. Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that alters the internal structure of the nose to improve its external appearance and/or function. When a woman is considering rhinoplasty surgery it is usually with the goal of enhancing her feminine appearance and overall beauty, and she should entrust this procedure only to a highly trained rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston.

In Some Cases

Many women feel their appearance is less than it could be due to the size and shape of their nose. In order to fix this, you must find a rhinoplasty surgeon who takes the time to thoroughly consult with you on exactly how you want your nose to look. Dr. Correa knows that a top rhinoplasty surgeon must grant absolute importance to the consultation step. Brushing over this is not an option.

Dr. Correa understands that gender is defined in part by the appearance of the nose. A feminine nose is typically more refined and narrow with a soft rounded tip. Women who have larger, more angular noses with broad tips can appear more masculine and have an unbalanced facial appearance. Dr. Correa strives to create beauty and proportion in sculpting the nose so it enhances the feminine aspect of appearance, without drawing attention to the fact that the patient has undergone rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty represents the pinnacle of subtlety in plastic surgery. A very small alteration can have a profound effect on how the nose balances the face. Although some features may seem ‘big,’ it is actually multiple small changes that lead to a natural and beautiful result; these are executed with exacting precision on a scale of millimeters. The goal is not to change the appearance so much that your friends can’t recognize you, but to enhance your natural features, and ensure your nose fits in with your facial structure and overall presence. As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Correa is well versed in making subtle changes during a rhinoplasty procedure that create natural-looking results.

Rhinoplasty Addresses Appearance & Function

There are many flaws that can be corrected by a competent rhinoplasty surgeon. Patients consulting Dr. Correa most often ask for help with:

  • Straightening a crooked nose
  • Reducing a hump
  • Making a wide nose narrow
  • Refining a bulbous tip
  • Changing the aspect of a tip that droops down
  • Reducing the length of the nose
  • Remedying obstructed breathing
  • Restructuring collapsed nostrils

Rhinoplasty: Correcting Functional Problems

It stands to reason that a malformed nose will also sometimes have functional difficulties. However, many people are desensitized to the fact that they have obstructed breathing and may not even realize they have nasal function problems at all. Likewise, the changes that occur during rhinoplasty can affect your breathing, so it is important to go to a surgeon who is competent in functional surgery in order to prevent this from happening. It is always Dr. Correa’s goal to improve both appearance and function.
Whether it was present during birth and development or due to later injury, people adjust to a reduced ability to breathe through the nose and think it is normal to breathe through their mouth or snore.

Some other signs of nasal malfunction include:

  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Dry throat
  • Reduced sense of smell
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sinus headaches

The Procedure

During your initial consultation, surgeon Dr. Correa will explain at length what the procedure will be in your particular case. Typically, general anesthesia is used. Your procedure will be performed using either a ‘closed’ or ‘open’ technique. Incisions in a ‘closed’ procedure are hidden inside the nostrils, and there are no external scars. An open procedure involves making an incision across the columella (the skin in the middle that separates the nostrils) to gain access to the structures being repaired and modified. The incision is only a few millimeters long, heals very well, and is very inconspicuous because it is below the nose. Following surgery, the nose is taped and usually splinted.

The Recovery

A normal part of rhinoplasty recovery involves some bruising and swelling. The vast majority of this will dissipate over the first 7-10 days, and if any residual bruising is still present it typically resolves gradually over the following few weeks. You will be followed in the clinic very closely after surgery. You will be seen in the morning after surgery to have packing removed from your nose and to ensure you are recovering well. At 5-7 days the dressing will be completely taken down giving you your first peek at your new nose. It will then be retaped and/or re-splinted for an additional few days. By the 8th day typically all dressings are removed. By the end of the 2nd-to-3rd week, much of the swelling will have resolved and is usually not noticeable except to close friends and family. Typically you will be able to return to work within 7-10 days. As with any surgery, you should avoid strenuous activity for several weeks to allow your body to heal, and no contact sports for 8 weeks (e.g. basketball, soccer). Although some aspects of your results can be seen early in the healing phase, in rhinoplasty we must be patient as your results aren’t ‘final’ until we get to one year.’
