The options available to remove some of those years from your appearance range from simple Botox injections and filler procedures up to a complete facelift. In most patients that need a facelift, combining it with a well thought out skin care regimen will improve results in the short and long-term. Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Correa wants you to receive the best results possible from your facelift, and he wants your long-term results to be excellent too.
WHAT IS A SURGICAL FACELIFT?
Facelifts represent one of the most complex facial cosmetic surgeries there is. With the possible exception of rhinoplasty, no other operation has a greater number of variables and individual differences between patients than a facelift. Because of this, it is essential to choose a surgeon who has a great understanding of the delicacies and intricacies inherent in facelift surgery.
TRADITIONAL FACELIFT
A ‘traditional’ facelift, if there is such a thing, utilizes a well-camouflaged incision to allow for tightening and redraping of the skin and underlying muscle and fascia. The tissue is tightened until the sagging is gone and any loose skin is removed. Sutures are then put in place at the incision site. There are other complementary procedures which are sometimes recommended with a facelift from Dr. Correa, such as fat transfer and neck lift. As a dedicated plastic surgeon, Dr. Correa works extensively on the face and is well-versed in all facelift techniques.
NECK LIFT
A neck lift is typically included in a full facelift. Some people desire a neck lift in isolation. The neck is an area that shows aging by an accumulation of fatty tissue and excess skin. An incision is made behind the ear allowing the surgeon to remove any excess fat by using liposuction, or a similar method. If needed, a platysmaplasty is done using a small incision under the chin, which is a procedure that separates the skin from the muscles that run vertically down the neck. This removes the ‘neck cord’ look which develops over time. Finally, the excess skin is removed and sutures are put in place. In some people, a neck lift can be performed alone, but most commonly a facelift and a neck lift will be needed to fully reduce the signs of aging.
